Description
Star Clean is a sulfamic acid based product developed to safely clean cement grout residue from ceramic or quarry tile.
Areas of use
Star Clean can be used as a cement residue cleanser over masonry surfaces, quarry tiles, vitreous pavers and ceramic tiles. When mixed with warm, potable water, it produces a non volatile, odorless, acidic solution that will not harm tile, grout joints or pigmented masonry surfaces. Some ceramic and high glossed tile will etch when in contact with acid, therefore, it is recommended that a small area is tested before full use.
Limitations
User must determine suitability of this product in any given application. Certain glazed ceramic tile or highly porous terracotta tile will not tolerate any form of acid. Recommended for professional use only. Test small area before full use.
Preparatory Work
Allow grout to cure sufficiently (minimum of 10 days). Saturate the grout joint with water before applying Star Clean solution.
Mixing
Mix slowly to avoid inhaling fine particle matter. Use 1 to 2 pounds (453.6 g to 907 g) Star Clean per 5 gallons (18.9 L) of cold water.
Application
Mop the area to be cleaned with water, apply above solution over tile and let stand for 2 – 3 minutes. Scrub with a stiff brush or white nylon pad in a circular motion until the grout residue is removed. Do not leave on tile for more than 10 minutes. A second application may be required in latex grout installations. Be sure to rinse the resultant acid sludge thoroughly from the tile surface.
Caution
Eyes, nose and skin irritant. Sulfamic acid and its solution cause eye burns and irritates the nose, throat and skin. Do not get into eyes. Avoid contact with skin and clothing. Minimize exposure by wearing eye goggles and rubber gloves when handling. Avoid breathing dust. Provide proper ventilation. In case of eye contact, immediately flush eyes with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes. Call a physician. For skin contact, flush with plenty of water. For ingestion of sulfamic acid, immediately drink large amounts of water. Call a physician. Do not induce vomiting. KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN.
