Description
The Mohawk Group enpress™ pressure sensitive adhesive is specially designed to install The Mohawk Group carpet tiles and six-foot rolls. enpress™ pressure sensitive adhesive is nonflammable and has low odor and “zero” calculated VOC’s, which makes it ideal for use in schools, health care facilities, public buildings, and anywhere odor is a concern. enpress™ pressure sensitive adhesive is CRI Green Label Plus approved. This adhesive also meets or exceeds California requirements as specified in Rules 102 and 443 as well as California SCAQMD Rule 1168. This adhesive contains MicroSept™ broad spectrum antimicrobial protection.
Site and Material Preparation
The Mohawk Group enpress™ pressure sensitive adhesive can be applied over a variety of porous and non- porous surfaces including: steel, Terrazzo, APA approved plywood, and properly prepared concrete. The installation site must be acclimated with HVAC in operation. The floor and room temperature, as well as flooring materials and adhesive, must be maintained at 65°- 95° F, and the humidity below 65% for 48 hours prior to, during, and after the testing and installation. See carpet manufacturer’s installation instructions and CRI 104 Standard. Sub floors must be structurally sound, smooth, dry and free of dust, dirt, wax, paint, grease, curing agents, unapproved sealers, old adhesives and foreign matter. Concrete floors must be fully cured and dry. Calcium Chloride Moisture Test (ASTM F1869) results must not exceed 5.0 pounds, pH must be between 5.0 and 9.0 and In-Situ relative humidity readings (ASTM F2170) must not exceed 80%. When installing PVC backed flooring over old cutback or broadloom adhesive residue, use Mohawk Group Sureseal as a barrier to help prevent plasticizer migration. Following instructions for use, apply the SureSeal only after existing adhesive is mechanically scraped to a smooth minimum residue. Do not use solvent or liquid adhesive removers.
Application:
Thermoplastic Backing: Apply adhesive onto floor with a 3/8” nap roller at a rate of 35 – 40 yd.2/gallon. Ecoflex (urethane cushion): Apply adhesive with a 1/16” x 1/16” x 1/16” Square notched trowel at a rate of 16– 22 yd.²/gallon. PVC Backing: Apply adhesive onto floor with a 3/8” nap roller at a rate of 35 – 40 yd.2 /gallon.
Keep the roller saturated and wet with adhesive throughout the installation in order to maintain a constant spread rate. Adhesive must be full spread, not grid method. Allow to completely dry until transparent, or does not transfer to finger when touched. Drying time will vary with temperature, humidity and air velocity; however, do not allow adhesive to dry for more than two hours before installing floor covering. Roll with a 75 or 100 pound carpet roller upon completion (depending on the type of floor covering being installed). See floor covering installation recommendations for further instructions.
Coverage:
Coverage should not exceed 40 square yards per gallon. Certain site conditions can reduce coverage rates. It is the responsibility of the installer to determine the proper amount of adhesive required for site conditions.
Shelf Life:
One year from manufacturing date, in an unopened container. Protect from freezing.
