INSTALLATION
Preparation
Clean all surfaces that will be in contact with mortar. Surfaces must be free of dust, dirt, oil, grease and any contaminates.
Mixing
Place water (or LATICRETE® 333 Super Flexible Additive*) in clean mixing pail. Add LATICRETE 8500 Glass Block Mortar and mix by hand or with a low speed (150 rpm) drill to a stiff, non-slump consistency. Approximately 4 quarts (3.8 ℓ) of liquid mixes with 50 lbs. (22.7 kg) of powder. Allow to slake 5–10 minutes. Remix and apply as normal mortar.
Note: For interior applications, mix with water. For prefabricated panels, exterior applications and for improved adhesion, mix with LATICRETE 333 Super Flexible Additive.
Application
Place a full bed of mortar on the base or sill. Do not furrow. Set first course of glass blocks and tap into place with a rubber mallet. Apply full bed of mortar to head joints on each block as they are placed.
Set each course of glass block in a full mortar bed. Rake or tool joints to a uniform appearance when mortar is firm. Follow manufacturer’s instructions regarding anchors, spacers, expansion joints, reinforcements and wall ties.
Cleaning
Remove all excess mortar from surface of glass blocks using a damp sponge or cheese cloth before mortar hardens. Clean tools with water while mortar is wet.
