PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
LATICRETE 816 LatiPatch is a smooth trowel applied underlayment. It is formulated with a special blend of cements, fillers and polymers to produce a fast setting patching compound that can be applied over concrete and exterior glue plywood. LATICRETE 816 LatiPatch is normally mixed with water. For special substrates, embossing vinyl floors and for improved performance, this product should be mixed with LATICRETE Admix & Primer.
Uses
LATICRETE 816 LatiPatch is used as an underlayment to smooth concrete or plywood floors for installing ceramic tile, carpet, wood, or resilient flooring and for embossing non-cushioned vinyl floors.
Advantages
Rapid set allows final floor installation in 1–2 hours.
For repairing floors from feather edge to 1/2″ (12 mm) thickness.
Smooth surface allows easy installation of resilient flooring.
Adheres to exterior glue plywood.
Suitable Substrates—Interior Use Only
Mortar beds
Exterior glue plywood*
Gypsum board
Fully cured concrete (at least 28 days old)
Masonry
Cement backer board**
* See 5. INSTALLATION; Surface Preparation.
**Consult cement backer board manufacturer for specific installation recommendations and to verify acceptability for exterior use.

Limitations
DO NOT use for exterior applications.
Adhesives/mastics, mortars and grouts for ceramic tile, pavers, brick and stone are not replacement for waterproofing membranes. When a waterproofing membrane is required, use a LATICRETE Waterproofing Membrane (see Section 10 Filing Systems).
Concrete substrates must be at least 28 days old and completely cured.
DO NOT apply at thicknesses above 1/2″ (12 mm) in one pass.
Not a wearing surface. Cover cured underlayment with finish flooring.
DO NOT bond to particle board, luan, Masonite ® or hardwood surfaces.
Cautions
Consult MSDS for more safety information.
Contains portland cement. May irritate eyes and skin. Avoid contact with eyes or prolonged contact with skin. In case of contact, flush thoroughly with water.
For white and light-colored marbles use a white LATICRETE mortar.
For green and moisture sensitive marbles, use LATAPOXY® 300 Adhesive. Refer to Data Sheet 633.0.
DO NOT take internally. Avoid breathing dust. Wear a respirator in dusty areas.
Keep out of reach of children.
INSTALLATION
Surface Preparation
All surfaces should be clean, and free from dust, grease, curing compounds, laitance, and efflorescence. Concrete slabs should be pre-dampened but all excess water swept off. LATICRETE® Admix & Primer should be mixed with LATICRETE 816 LatiPatch™ for concrete floors that exhibit rough, pot marked, or dry porous surfaces.
1. Installer must verify that deflection under all live, dead and impact loads of interior plywood floors does not exceed industry standards of L/360 for ceramic tile and brick or L/480 for stone installations where L=span length.
2. Minimum construction for interior plywood floors. SUBFLOOR: 5/8″ (15 mm) thick exterior glue plywood, either plain with all sheet edges blocked or tongue and groove, over bridged joints spaced 16″ (400 mm) o.c. maximum; fasten plywood 6″ (150 mm) o.c. along sheet ends and 8″ (200 mm) o.c. along intermediate supports with 8d ring-shank, coated or hot dip galvanized nails (or screws); allow 1/8″ (3 mm) between sheet ends and 1/4″ (6 mm) between sheets edges; all sheet ends must be supported by a framing member; glue sheets to joints with construction adhesive. UNDERLAYMENT: 5/8″ (15 mm) thick exterior glue plywood fastened 6″ (150 mm) o.c. along sheet ends and 8″ (200 mm) o.c. in the panel field (both directions) with 8d ring-shank, coated or hot dip galvanized nails (or screws); allow 1/8″ (3mm) to 1/4″ (6 mm) between sheets and 1/4″ (6 mm) between sheet edges and any abutting surfaces; offset underlayment joints from joints in subfloor and stagger joints between sheet ends; glue underlayment to subfloor with construction adhesive. Refer to Technical Data Sheet 152 “Bonding Ceramic Tile, Stone or Brick Over Wood Floors” for complete details.
For installation over Cutback Adhesive, consult the manufacturer of the Adhesive and any governmental agencies for laws concerning the removal of Cutback Adhesives.
Mixing
Mix to a lump-free creamy consistency. Mix approximately 3 1/4 quarts (3.1 ℓ) of water or 5 quarts (4.8 ℓ) of LATICRETE Admix & Primer with each 25 lbs (11.4 kg) bag or 8 lbs carton (3.6 kg) with 1.6 quarts (1.5 ℓ) of LATICRETE Admix & Primer. Mix with a low speed drill mixer for 1 minute. Do not mix more material than can be applied in 10–15 minutes. This product is designed to give a maximum pot life of 15 minutes through its unique thixotropy, it will regain its workability by simply remixing. Do not add extra water to extend the pot life.
Note: Mix within indicated ranges as over-watering could lead to drastic deterioration in the hardened properties.
Application
For Concrete Surfaces
Follow surface preparation as outlined in section 5. Apply to surface using a flat steel trowel from feather-edge up to 1/2″ (12 mm) thick. Mix with LATICRETE Admix and Primer for very dry or porous concrete.
Non-Water Soluble Cutback Adhesive
Follow industry guidelines for the removal of ridges and loose pieces of non-water soluble cutback adhesive. Mix a 25 lbs bag (11.3 kg) with 5 qts (4.7 ℓ) or 8 lbs carton (3.6 kg) with 1.6 quarts (1.5 ℓ) of LATICRETE Admix and Primer and apply over non-water soluble cutback adhesive to desired height making sure it is fully covered. Allow 60–90 minutes to dry
Embossing Non-Cushioned Vinyl Floors and VCT
Remove any coatings, waxes, oils or any contaminant which may act as a bond breaker with a standard stripping solution. Floor should be structurally sound and firmly bonded to the substrate in all areas. Mix a 25 lbs (11.3 kg) bag or 8 lbs (3.6 kg) carton of LATICRETE 816 LatiPatch with LATICRETE Admix and Primer at full strength. Fill the embossed pattern using the flat side of a quality steel trowel. Apply only enough material to fill the pattern and to achieve the greatest coverage. Allow to dry for roughly 90 minutes. If additional filing is required, mix only with water and fill any remaining voids.
Covering Existing Ceramic Tile
Make sure surface is clean and free from any contaminants that may act as a bond breaker. For glazed tile, scarify the surface to allow for a strong bond to the surface. Mix LATICRETE 816 LatiPatch at full strength with LATICRETE Admix and Primer and apply to desired height. Allow to dry accordingly.
Cold Weather Note: The setting of portland cement mortars and grouts are retarded by low temperatures. Protect finished work for an extended period of time in cold weather. Do not install tile when surface temperature is below freezing or when substrate is frozen.
Hot Weather Note: The evaporation of moisture in portland cement mortars is accelerated by hot, dry conditions. Do not use at temperatures greater than 85°F (29°C).
Cleaning
Clean tools and tile work with water while mortar is fresh.
